Roller skating has been around for as long as many people can remember. It seems synonymous with the disco era, and the drive-in movies of the 1940’s, but there is a divide among skaters and skating fans alike on which type of skate is superior: quad skates (traditional 4-wheeled roller skates) or inlines (single-bladed skates or rollerblades) Let’s take a look at some of the differences. At Deptford Skating and Fun Center, we welcome both groups!
Many claim this type of skate is easier than the inline skates, and are what many people use when teaching little ones to skate. Because it has four wheels instead of two, it is easier to maintain balance, making them appealing to skaters of all skill levels. The quad skate is both nostalgic and practical, and the best way to feel like you are channeling the golden days of roller skating.
An American Sports Data poll done a few years ago revealed that “10.8 million people roller skate (traditional quad skating). Another 29 million inline skate.” This means that more people are inline skating than the traditional roller skates! That is pretty impressive seeing that inline skates only gained their popularity at least 10 years after the height of the roller skate!
