Deptford Skating & Fun Center in Gloucester County New Jersey is all about FUN! However, we also believe in the importance of physical fitness and healthy eating as well. You may or may not know it, but the month of March is National Nutrition Month. So here are some great ways to incorporate healthy activities such as roller skating and roller hockey with good eating habits to increase your body’s overall health!
“Bite Into a Healthy Lifestyle” – NNM’s 2015 slogan
Think about the foods you eat on a daily basis; would you consider them ‘healthy foods?’ Most of us have a mix of healthy and unhealthy foods in our lives, the trick of course is to balance the two and not have the scale tipping in favor of the unhealthy foods’ side. Easier said than done, right? However, a good reason start watching what you eat isn’t just about body weight; you can also incur serious health issues if you refrain from giving your body what it needs (especially in children).
Some tips to begin making better food choices include: Cutting back on foods high in solid fats, added sugars, and salt; eating the right amount of calories for you; varying your meals with a mix of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and lean protein foods (don’t forget to drink a few glasses of water too).
To create a healthy lifestyle it is also important to add physical activity to the equation. It is a general rule that adults should get a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a day, but did you know that kids require a minimum of 60 minutes a day?! Of course most of this should be cardio, so roller skating really is the perfect exercise for kids and adults alike, as it is also low impact (good for us older skaters) and sessions are more than an hour.
We at Deptford Skating & Fun Center are here for you if you’re interested in learning to skate for exercise or just looking for a fun physical activity to do sometime. We hope the above tips will help you make the most of National Nutrition Month!
